Sagal Adam Hassan

MA Scholar  |  The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust  |  2018-2020

Sagal Adam Hassan has been awarded the Stuart Hall Foundation Bursary for her therapeutic work with children and young people.

Whilst reading French and Portuguese at the University of Birmingham, Sagal became interested in psychoanalysis. She subsequently completed a Master’s Degree at UCL in Theoretical Psychoanalytic studies where she focused on the work of Freud, Klein, Lacan and Winnicott. Her dissertation, “Home is where we start from”: A Winnicottian perspective on trauma and psychic survival among displaced people was an attempt to bring psychoanalytic ideas into dialogue with questions of refugeehood and identity.

She is currently carrying out a baby observation and working in a nursery as part of the MA Observational studies at the Tavistock clinic; with a view to progress to the clinical child psychotherapy training. She is also a research assistant at the Portman clinic, where she is working as part of a team on outcome monitoring of psychoanalytic psychotherapy with forensic patients.
