Yassmin V. Foster

Yassmin V. Foster is a director of movement, creative producer, sound (system) woman and scholar. Her career path is influenced by her heritage and experience of black culture, in particular the artistic expression of music and dance. Yassmin has worked progressively in the arts and culture sector since 1992, and her work has taken her to South and North America, Asia and Europe. 

She is a graduate of Anthropology and Media, and holds an MA Choreomundus – International master’s in dance knowledge, practice and heritage. Her research, which she has presented across the UK, and in the US, investigates movement within the contexts of play, ritual and dance. She champions interdisciplinary, cross-cultural and multi art-form collaborative journey's, whilst advocating for dance as intangible cultural heritage. 

Yassmin has been awarded funding through the Arts Council England and British Council’s Artists’ International Development Fund 2018, she will travel to Canada to continue her research in dance, dances and dancers of the African diaspora. In September 2018 Yassmin will begin a PhD programme within the Media and Communications department at Goldsmiths University London.
