Chantal Meng

PHD SCHOLAR | GOLDSMITHS, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON | 2016–2023

Chantal Meng is a researcher, creative director, artist and a Stuart Hall PhD Scholar at Goldsmiths, University of London (2016–23). Chantal holds a Master’s degree in Photography and Urban Cultures from Goldsmiths, University of London and received a Fulbright grant in 2015 to pursue research at The New School in New York about aspects of darkness in contemporary society. Chantal is interested in the notions of space and place: their limits in terms of perception and visual practice as well as civic engagements. Significant in her work are discourses about the image in culture and imagination. Chantal’s research aims to contribute to the field of visual culture and to yield new insights into the experience of modern urbanity.

Chantal is co-founder of the graphic design studio Pol Ltd. and a founding member and co-manager of the independent art space Grand Palais, both based in Bern, Switzerland. She is also a regular guest lecturer at the School of the Arts Bern + Biel.
